Golden Gambit is a senior chess tournament built around a bigger idea: celebrating legacy. It brings senior players together while recognising and preserving the contributions of people who helped grow chess in Nigeria.
CORE POSITIONING
We should not wait until people are gone before we celebrate what they gave.
Every generation deserves to know who helped build the foundation it stands on.
THE THREE CONNECTED DIMENSIONS
One project. Three pillars.
01
The Tournament
A competitive event for chess players aged 40 years and above.
02
Remembrance
An important component dedicated to deceased chess contributors.
03
The Legacy Platform
The heart of Golden Gambit, recognising both living and deceased contributors and preserving their stories.
WHY GOLDEN GAMBIT EXISTS
Recognition should happen while it can still be felt.
Golden Gambit seeks to change a culture in which people are often celebrated only after they are gone—and sometimes not even then.
Who gave their time when there was little recognition?
Who coached generations of players?
Who organised tournaments and created institutions?
Who supported players, served the federation and mentored younger players?
PROJECT EVOLUTION
2024 → 2026
The 2024 edition was announced as a senior tournament for players aged 45+ and included a tribute to late pioneers who contributed to Nigerian chess.
A broader legacy platform.
The 2026 project builds on that foundation, expanding from a primarily memorial-oriented senior tournament into a broader legacy platform that celebrates both living and deceased contributors.
MASTER BRAND STATEMENT
Chess provides the connection. Legacy is the reason it matters.
Golden Gambit Chess Tournament is a celebration of legacy—bringing together senior chess players while honouring the people, living and departed, whose contributions helped shape the game of chess in Nigeria.
